Transport and Highways Deputy Minister Dr. Prasanna Kumara Gunasena said that around 30 roads in Kandy District which were impassable during the last two days, due to the inclement weather, have been reopened.

The Deputy Minister made these comments while addressing the media following a special discussion held yesterday (28) at the Kandy District Secretariat, chaired by the Central Province Governor (CPG) on the issue of Disaster Management in the Kandy District.

Speaking further, he said that if there is any difficulty in travelling along the completely impassable roads, additional public transport services will be introduced to enable people to travel both ways.

He also said that estimates will be prepared for the restoration of the damaged roads and financial provisions will be allocated in the future. Dr. Prasanna Kumara Gunasena further said that many roads have been opened with only one lane in operation, as it is dangerous to fully open the impassable roads, as the danger still persists.

CPG Professor Sarath Abhayakone, Members of Parliament Thanura Dissanayake, Jagath Manuwarna Kodituwakku, Kumburegedara Basnayake, Riaz Mohammed, Dhona Thushari Jayasinghe, Mohammed Pasmeen, CP Chief Secretary Ajith Premasinghe, Acting Kandy District Secretary Lalith Atampawala, Kandy District Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Center, Indika Ranaweera and many Divisional Secretaries and Heads of Departments participated in this discussion.
