Depression likely to ease off from today

0 7

The deep depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal was located 110 km northeast of Trincomalee yesterday (28) is likely to move slowly, north-northwestwards closer to the east coast of Sri Lanka and there is a possibility to intensify further. The influence of this system on the country’s weather can be expected to gradually reduce after today (29).

The Met Department stated that showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Northern and North-central provinces and in Trincomalee district.

Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in the Northern Province during the next 36 hours effective yesterday evening.

Showers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragam uwa and North-Western provinces and in the Galle district. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere in the evening or night.

Strong winds of about 60 kmph can be expected at times over Northern, North Central, North-Western, Central and Eastern provinces.

The public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
