The Consumer Affairs Authority has deployed two officers in large-scale rice mill to check the daily stocks of rice issued to the market by the millers.
The officers will also check whether the rice is reaching the consumers at the stipulated prices and the stock quantity and price issued by the rice mill owners on a daily basis. These inspections will be conducted continuously for 10 days from yesterday (9) and these inspections have been started first in Polonnaruwa and Hambantota districts.
During the recent discussion with the President, the owners of rice mills had reached an agreement to issue rice subject to the maximum retail price and the President has instructed the Consumer Affairs Authority to strictly enforce the law against those selling rice beyond the prescribed price.
The shops in Dambulla town received rice stocks yesterday (9) under Government controlled price. Most of the shopkeepers said that they have enough stocks of rice. Consumer Affairs Authority officers also inspected rice mills in the Hambantota and Polonnaruwa districts.
