Thriposha – Wherever and whenever needed

The Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, has emphasised the Ministry of Health’s commitment to continuously provide highly nutritious and healthy Thriposha supplementary food to infants and mothers across the country.

The Minister made this statement during a recent special discussion at the Ministry of Health, with representatives from the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Management of Sri Lanka Thriposha Ltd.

The discussions focused on enhancing the implementation of the Thriposha supplementary food programme for infants, pregnant women, and lactating mothers in a more systematic, efficient and health-conscious manner.

Aligned with the Government’s “Prosperous Country – Beautiful Life” policy framework, the meeting also addressed the Nutrition-Rich Generation of Children initiative, a priority programme aimed at ensuring nutritious and high-quality food for underprivileged families. The goal of the discussion was to assess the institutional and infrastructural capacities of food production entities, and to develop future strategies, while providing immediate solutions to existing challenges.

Enhancing the efficiency of machinery in the production facility.

Dr. Jayatissa reiterated that Sri Lanka Thriposha was established with the vision of building a prosperous, proud, healthy and nourished nation free of malnutrition. He emphasised that all stakeholders must work towards this primary goal by ensuring the delivery of this free nutritional supplement in a clean, reliable and high-quality manner.

The Minister also commended the WFP’s efforts to improve the nutritional status of infants, mothers, schoolchildren and the wider population. He expressed gratitude for the WFP’s support of the school meal programme for primary-grade students.

Additionally, Dr. Jayatissa highlighted the importance of establishing a formal mechanism, with the Ministry of Health’s support, to ensure food safety and quality. He discussed plans to expand the food programme for schoolchildren across the country.

The discussion was attended by WFP Country Director Abdul Rahim Siddiqui, Deputy Director Gerard Rebello, Programme Policy Officers Dilka Peni and Pubudu Ariyaratne, Sri Lanka Thriposha Chairman Deepthi Kularatne, Senior Operations Manager Champika Salgadu, Finance Manager Tharidu Shamika, Deputy Director of the Presidential Secretariat Aruna Bokugamage, Additional Secretary (Procurement) of the Ministry of Health and Mass Media Rohana de Silva, Deputy Director General Dr. Champika Wickramasinghe, Director (Nutrition) Dr. Monica Wijeratne, community specialists, and other officials.
