Colombo Stock Market boom unprecedented

The Colombo Stock Market has become the second best performing market in the South Asian region, triggering a lot of people to come into the market take benefit from this investment avenue, Colombo Stock Exchange’s (CSE) Branch Network Manager Nishantha Batagalla said.

Commenting on the record growth of the CSE, he further stated, “The Colombo stock market has become the talking point of many investors in the last few weeks or months. This is mainly due to the high volume of trading, the turnovers, which has gone into unprecedented levels.”

Batagalla pointed out the impressive growth of the Colombo Stock Exchange.

He highlighted that the All Share Price Index of the Colombo Stock Exchange had risen by 31.7% in the past year, while the S&P Sri Lanka 20 Index, which includes 20 selected companies, had increased by 41.7%.

He noted that the Colombo stock market had become the second-best performing market in the South Asian region, attracting many new investors looking to benefit from this promising investment avenue.

He attributed the market’s growth to ongoing discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the prevailing low-interest regime, which had encouraged more people to invest.

Batagalla also pointed out the top-performing sectors of the year. The transportation sector led the way with a 59% increase, followed by software services at 57%, retailing at 56%, and the banking sector with a 49% increase.

“With the market on the rise and growing interest from the public and new investors, we urge everyone to educate themselves about stock market investing.
