Two promising players of Sri Lanka, Ganuka Fernando and Lithum Jayabandu recorded victories at the boys singles matches over Mongolian players at the ITF world junior Tennis Asia/ Oceania pre qualifying round competition which started at SLTA courts yesterday.Ganuka Fernando beat Mandakh Davaadash of Mongolia with two straight sets 6/1, 6/1 in the first single game of the team event while Lithum Jayabanda outclassed Mongolian Sanompuntsag Enkhjargal 6/2, 6/0. Meanwhile at the boys double game Ganuka partnered with Baasith Vader the Sri Lankan pair defeated Mongolian pair Sanompuntsag and Zolbay Ar Ganbold with two sets 6/3 6/3.
Thirteen countries are taking part in the boys team event while nine countries are taking part in the girls team event .
Sri Lanka, Mongolia and Pakistan are in the same Group A in the boys competition while at the girls competition Sri Lanka, Mongolia and Singapore are in same group ‘B’. (D.R)
