There is a magical atmosphere at the hotel. We all know that no Christmas party is complete without a Christmas tree. The star atop the Christmas tree is symbolic, it is the Star of Bethlehem. Sheraton Kosgoda Turtle Beach Resort is also very proud to unveil its own unique Christmas tree, crafted entirely from tea branches sourced from the Puwakdola Estate in Pinikahana, Elpitiya. This initiative celebrates the festive spirit while underscoring the resort’s commitment to sustainability and community collaboration. Nestled in the Southern Galle District, the Puwakdola Estate spans 10 acres, with 8 acres dedicated to the cultivation of the unique tea variety.

Tea branches were selectively harvested every three years as part of a sustainable pruning process, ensuring the longevity and health of the plantation. This year, branches from an acre of the estate were pruned, cleaned, painted and transformed into the stunning Christmas centerpiece! This project exemplifies Sheraton Kosgoda’s philosophy of fostering community partnerships and responsible resource use. The tree stands as a testament to how sustainability and festive celebrations can harmoniously co-exist, bringing joy to guests while supporting local agriculture and artisans.

There is a lot of collaborative effort, that Sheraton Kosgoda as an organization undertake. Actually not many people know what actually takes place behind the scenes. There is a whole team working very hard to make Christmas a reality for the guests. Their hardwork and commitment is certainly commendable.

“This is something we demonstrate and practice every single day. During this important season we have separate and dedicated teams who are specially trained to look after the guests on an individual basis. For example, we have the annual buffet set up.
