Guangzhou: Setting a shining example to the world tourism landscape, VIP Shop, a private owned E- Commerce Enterprise together with a State owned enterprise in Huadu district Hua Pu Province, Urban Development Group have converted an Langtou village, built during the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) with a history of more than 600 years to a major tourism boutique hotel.
The VIP Shop saw the plight of the villagers who were finding it hard for ends to meet and offered them new homes in more luxury conditions and a new means of employment in return for their run down homes.
For the aging villages was a blessing in disguise and today some of them are working in the Langtou Village luxury hotel while others are in the supply chain of the hotel earning lavishly.
In addition, the government authorities have also built a special shopping area for the villagers to sell their merchandise free of charge. The villagers are also provided space to have coffee shops and restaurants to cater not only tourists who reside in it but also tourists who come to visit the place daily in large numbers.
Today Langton Village offers 31 individual accommodations with all the modern facilities including swimming pool, special dining area and many other facilities. As a CSR initiative VIP Shop has also built a modern library with several new features using technical innovations.
A Chinese official told Sri Lanka Media during a tour organized by the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka to Guangzhou that the village was added to the list of China’s famous historic and cultural villages in 2014.
They said that the total investment done is around Yuan 200 million. “A further investment of this nature would be invested to build around 40 more luxury homes to meet the growing demand of both local and foreign travelers.”
