Postal Department to deliver Modern and Efficient Service – Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa

The Sri Lanka Postal Department is being transformed into a modern and efficient service provider, with plans from the Government intending to elevate the Postal Service to new heights. The vision is to offer innovative and diverse services that prioritise customer satisfaction through the use of advanced technology, said Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.

The Minister emphasised the importance of revamping the Postal Service during his visit to the Colombo General Post Office. He highlighted the current services, projects, and future plans, focusing on addressing challenges and finding solutions to enhance the Department’s revenue streams. Minister Jayatissa reiterated the Government’s commitment to re-establishing the Postal Service as a vital National entity, free from political or personal influences. He stressed the need for strategic planning at least over the next 10 years, with a particular focus on the Tourism sector to create a more profitable organisation.

Minister Jayatissa also underscored the significance of planning for foreign aid projects to boost revenue and improve competitiveness with private companies. He pointed out the potential in various overlooked areas and the necessity of digitalising services to increase popularity among the public. Additionally, he advised officials to engage in comprehensive planning, and to ensure that the Department’s strategies align with its long-term goals.

In his discussions with Trade Union representatives and Department officials, Minister Jayatissa acknowledged their gratitude for his attention to the Postal Service’s operations and labor issues. He urged them to focus on making the Postal Service more efficient and reliable for the public.

Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Health and Media, Postmaster General S.R.W.M.R.P. Sathkumara, along with other Deputy Postmasters and Trade Union representatives, accompanied the Minister on this visit, highlighting the collaborative effort to rejuvenate Sri Lanka’s Postal Service.
