The Retired Senior Police Officers’ Association held its 43rd Annual General Meeting recently at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess, Keppetipola Mawatha, Colombo 5. Retired DIG Noel Francis was re-elected unanimously as the President for the second term. The following members were elected to the Executive Committee.

A resolution was passed unanimously expressing deep appreciation for the genuine efforts and measures taken by the President and his Government to create a people friendly and efficient Police Service thus re-establishing and reinforcing the Rule of Law and totally eradicate political interference in the operation of Law Enforcement entities in the country towards a corrupt free society.
This resolution was proposed by Retired Senior DIG H. M. G. B. Kotakadeniya and seconded by Retired DIG O. K. Hemachandra.
Veteran broadcaster, writer and well-known poet S. Rafeek was awarded ”Viththakar” for his achievements in the literary field at the Annual Provincial Literary Festival conducted by the Provincial Cultural Department Ministry at the Cultural Centre of the Trincomalee Hindu College, recently.Rafeek who has been serving as an announcer for more than 30 years at the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation. He was also a news reader and presenter on National Television. He has also authored four books and has won several awards in the literary field in the Provincial and National levels. The remains of veteran singer Priya Suriyasena was brought to the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation to pay last respects yesterday.
