Public Utilities Commission (PUCSL) Director General Damitha Kumarasinghe said the report containing proposed amendments to electricity tariffs by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and consumer suggestions will be made public on January 17.

He stated that public consultations at provincial level will continue until January 10, and the report will be released after reviewing and analysing all the feedback gathered during these sessions.

Speaking during a stakeholder consultation in the Central Province held at the Kandy District Secretariat Auditorium on Friday (27), Kumarasinghe noted that the proposed electricity tariff amendments for January 2025 were a key focus.

The event was attended by 60 stakeholders, including electricity consumers, who provided valuable input on points to consider in the tariff revision.

The Public Utilities Commission initiated this provincial consultation process following a presentation made by the CEB on December 6, 2024, regarding the planned tariff revisions. Written public comments on the proposed revisions began on December 17, with the first oral consultation held in Colombo on December 10.

The provincial consultation series commenced in the Central Province on December 27 and will continue with a session in the Uva Province tomorrow (December 30).

The schedule includes the Sabaragamuwa Province consultation on January 3 and sessions in the Southern and North Western Provinces on January 4. The North Central Province consultation is scheduled for January 5, while the Northern Province and Eastern Province sessions will be held on January 6 and January 8, respectively. The final consultation will focus on the Western Province on January 10.
