“A Prosperous Nation; A Beautiful Life!” officially launches on Jan. 01, 2025
G.N.R.D. Aponsu, Senior Additional Secretary to the President said that the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ National Programme, aimed at cleaning the entire country across all sectors, is a collective National initiative involving all citizens rather than being affiliated with any political party.
Speaking at a special media briefing held yesterday morning (30) at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, Aponsu announced that the new national initiative will officially launch on January 1, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Secretariat premises.
Bearing the theme… “A Prosperous Nation; A Beautiful Life!” the programme aims to clean the environment across the country and raise the socio-economic standards and freedom of the people to levels enjoyed by citizens in developed nations.
Starting January 1, the initiative will focus on creating a cleaner environment nationwide while fostering a mindset change among the public during its first month. The Secretary emphasised that this will involve the active participation of all citizens, from schoolchildren to adults, and highlighted the critical role of the media in driving this effort.
Chaminda Jayasuriya, representing the Presidential National Task Force for ‘Clean Sri Lanka’, revealed that the programme’s launch will also introduce a dedicated ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ website and a new app, allowing for enhanced public participation and transparency.
The programme will span five years, commencing with pilot projects in selected cities, and expanding to cover the entire Nation. Financial contributions and technical assistance have already been secured from both local and international agencies and governments, Jayasuriya said.
Those interested in contributing can make financial donations or assist in other means. The programme promises complete transparency, with every cent accounted for via the website, ensuring public trust in the initiative.
Jayasuriya further noted that the programme is aligned with global environmental standards and aims to position Sri Lanka among the cleanest nations in the world. He stressed that the effort is not just a directive but a necessary cultural shift, implemented flexibly to adapt to daily needs.
The event was attended by Presidential Additional Secretary Noor Rizna Anees, senior officials from the Presidential Secretariat, and several media executives.
