A woman who was attacked by wasps had run screaming to the Gampola Atabage Udagama Rural Hospital, and the wasps that had followed her had attacked a group of people who had come to the hospital clinic as well as the doctor there. fifteen including the doctor, were seriously injured and admitted to the Gampola Teaching Hospital.

This group had attempted to escape the attacking wasps by closing the windows and doors of the hospital and setting fires. Later, two ambulances had been brought to the hospital and the group, who had been seriously injured in the was attack, had been sent to the Gampola Hospital.

It was said that when people in shops near the hospital were threatened by wasps, they also tried to escape by closing their shops and setting up fires.

The rapidly spreading wasp population in the mountainous area has greatly affected the lives of people, including plantation workers and several people have already died due to wasp attacks.
