Health and Media Minister Dr.Nalinda Jayatissa has clarified that reports claiming roadside businesses are prohibited under the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ initiative are false.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Government Information Department yesterday (3), the Minister stated that the programme is not designed as an enforcement or litigation initiative.

He emphasised that no law regarding this initiative has been passed in Parliament to date.

Minister Jayatissa assured that no instructions have been issued to arrest individuals or file lawsuits under the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ programme.

The clarification comes amidst concerns and misinformation regarding the programme’s objectives and implementation. Minister Dr.Nalinda Jayatissa announced the launch of the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, aimed at transforming Sri Lanka into a prosperous nation with happy citizens, making it a significant global state.

Minister Jayatissa noted that “Clean Sri Lanka” is not a standalone effort by a single ministry but a collaborative initiative involving multiple government agencies under the President’s leadership. He described it as a scientifically designed plan to elevate the country environmentally, socially, and morally. The minister clarified that the programme is not a short-term or superficial initiative but a long-term, sustainable effort to address the nation’s challenges and rebuild its reputation. “This is about transforming our social, moral, and environmental image and raising Sri Lanka to a higher standard,” he explained. Under this programme, the government is actively engaging with state officials and the public to ensure its success. The minister called on all citizens to contribute to the initiative, highlighting its importance in shaping a better future for Sri Lanka.
