Former MP R. Duminda Silva, previously confined at the prison hospital, has been readmitted to the Colombo National Hospital following a health emergency.
Initially transferred from the prison hospital to the general cell block K-1 in the Welikada Prison on January 10, Silva was rushed to the National Hospital at around 2:00 am the same night after falling ill.
When the Commissioner General of Prisons inquired from the Director General of Health Services regarding the necessity of ongoing in-hospital care for Silva within the prison, an 18-member specialist medical team from Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital investigated Silva’s condition and advised that continuing his residency at the prison hospital was unnecessary, prompting his subsequent transfer back to the general ward in the prison.
The committee of specialists emphasised that Silva should not be hospitalised within the prison unless absolutely necessary, highlighting the importance of immediate treatment in case of emergency complications. This advisory was formally communicated to the prison department on January 10, ensuring Silva’s health needs remain appropriately managed.
