The officer in charge (OIC) of the Daulagala Police Station on the day an 18-year-old schoolgirl was abducted in the Hapugahayata Thanna area has been suspended. The disciplinary action follows an internal investigation by the police.

Chief Inspector R.A.S.S. Ranasinghe, who was acting as the OIC during the incident, has been suspended. In addition, Chief Inspector G.G. Kusum Gamage, who was on duty at the station, has been transferred to the Kadugannawa Police, while Sub-Inspector G.A.S. Nimalsiri, the OIC of the Crime Branch, has been transferred to the Velamboda Police.

The decision was made under the orders of Senior DIG Lalith Pathinayake, who oversees the Central Province.

According to a senior police officer, a Gampola Police officer, who passed by the scene of the abduction around 7:30 a.m. on January 19th, had informed the Daulagala Police operations room. However, disciplinary action was taken on the grounds that the Daulagala Police failed to act promptly on the information.
