13th consecutive annual event of “Gratitude for Service”

The annual “Kruthaveditwaye Satkaraya” (Gratitude for the Service) programme conducted by Ven. Pallegama Vijitha Thera to present gifts to the current students, teachers, non-academic staff and retired teachers as well, who taught him at the Pallegama Secondary School in Deniyaya where the Thera studied, was held recently.

This was the thirteenth consecutive annual event of the “Gratitude for the Service” programme, implemented by Administrative Secretary of the Sri Lanka Pilgrimage Resort in New Delhi, India, Incumbent of both the Veluwanaramaya in Rajagaha and the Dharmashrama in Rajagiriya, Colombo, and Vice President of the Ananda Bodhi Society in India, Ven Pallegama Vijitha Thera.

The special feature of this Gratitude for the Service is that every child studying in the school receives the same set of prizes and special prizes are given to the talented students in each subject. This is the only annual school prize giving ceremony in Sri Lanka where every child studying in the school receives a prize.

Ven. Vijitha Thera has also continuously invited the teachers who taught him to felicitate them by offering gifts for the past thirteen years. Besides, he has also been continuously presenting special prizes to every child who has been selected to universities from the school.

Accordingly, this time, special prizes were awarded to 800 children studying at the Pallegama Secondary School, six students who qualified for university education last year, 225 students who demonstrated special talents in various subject and extra-curricular fields such as subject talents, cadets, sports, dance, art, singing and music, Sinhala, English and Tamil language competitions, environmental guides, invention competitions, and ten teams that won team competitions.
