Netflix star Kim Sae-ron found dead at home aged 24

Netflix actress Kim Sae-ron has been found dead at her home. She was aged 24.

The TV star gained fame after starring in the streaming service’s Korean thriller Bloodhounds, which was released in 2023. The series was in the platform’s top 10 shows across 83 countries.

Kim was found at her home in Seongdong-gu, Seoul by a friend, according to police reports.

‘We have not found any signs of foul play as of yet, but we are investigating the circumstances of the death,’ a police official said, as reported by The Korea Times.

Her career began when she was just nine, and early work included A Brand New Life, which showcased at thget an invite to the exclusive event. She went on to appear in action film The Man from Nowhere, which was the highest-grossing film in South Korea in 2010, and the 2012 thriller The Neighbour.

Kim transitioned easily to more adult roles with the television drama Secret Healer. She also starred in thriller The Villagers, campus web drama Love Playlist, and Leverage, based on the American drama of the same name.

A drunk driving incident in May 2022 led to Kim taking a hiatus from acting. Kim was fined 20 million won, which is around £13,000. Due to backlash, her role in Bloodhounds appeared to have been significantly reduced in the show’s edit.

At the time she apologised, writing: ‘There is no excuse for this unfortunate incident and I am disappointed and so ashamed of my mistake. I will reflect and reflect again and again so that this never happens again. I’m sorry.’

She was expected to make a comeback in the play Dongchimi but withdrew.
