What is the Arrested Monitoring Information System?

0 1

The Sri Lanka Police has introduced the Arrested Monitoring Information System (AMIS), a new digital platform designed to streamline the process of tracking individuals reported for criminal or traffic-related offences.

According to the Police, the system allows officers to instantly check if a person has been previously reported for any offence. It is accessible to all police stations islandwide and enables quick verification of a suspect’s legal status.

Previously, individuals arrested on suspicion with a crime could only be released after their innocence was confirmed through multiple public or private institutions. Under the new system, police officers can enter a suspect’s details into the AMIS database to determine if they have prior records, allowing for immediate release if no offences are found.

The system also aids in identifying individuals evading court summons. For example, if someone reported for a traffic offence is already flagged for ignoring court orders, they can be identified and arrested through the AMIS, Police said. (Newswire)
