US$ 31 mn paid for diesel tanker

A payment of US$ 31 million was settled yesterday to a Singaporean company for a diesel tanker docked near the Colombo Port and another shipment carrying fuel is expected today, Energy Ministry Secretary K.D.R. Olga said.

She said unloading of 37,000 MT of diesel in the ship began yesterday. Another ship carrying 28,000MT of diesel and 9,000 MT of jet fuel is expected tomorrow. Two more ships carrying fuel are scheduled to arrive on March 6 and 7.She said steps were being taken to open Letters of Credit to release the future shipments. The Energy Ministry said there are enough petrol stocks in the country at the moment.
