China’s Communist Party delegation meets JVP leaders

A high‑level delegation of the Chinese Communist Party met with the General Secretary of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Tilvin Silva, and a group of JVP leaders at the party headquarters on Wednesday (24).

The meeting was attended by Wang Junzheng, a member of the 20th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Xizang Autonomous Region, Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong, and Peng Xiubin, Director‑General of the East and South Asian Affairs Bureau of the International Department of the CCP Central Committee, along with the delegation. 

Representing the JVP were Politburo member and Minister of Industry and Enterprise Development Sunil Handunneththi, Central Committee member and Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe, among others.

During the meeting, extensive discussions were held on the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the Chinese Communist Party and the JVP. The talks also covered the history of the JVP, the current political situation in the country, and the cooperative activities carried out in 2025 under the agreements signed during President Anura Dissanayake’s visit to China.

JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva expressed gratitude and appreciation for the assistance and support provided by the Chinese government to the people of Sri Lanka affected by Cyclone Ditwah.

Senior member of the Chinese Communist Party, Wang Junzheng, stated that such assistance would continue in the future as well.

He also noted that the 4th Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, held last October, and the program conducted in Sri Lanka on the 23rd in parallel with the 20th Central Committee, had concluded successfully.

Wang Junzheng further expressed views on China’s 15th Five‑Year Plan, which is currently being widely discussed within the country.

The meeting also discussed the need and measures to further strengthen cooperation between the Chinese Communist Party and the JVP in the coming year. (Newswire)
