President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has assured that there will be no fuel shortage in Sri Lanka at present, despite the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Addressing the Parliament today, the President briefed the House on the available stocks of fuel and arrangements to ensure a continuous supply under the current circumstances.
According to President Dissanayake, Sri Lanka has sufficient stocks of diesel for the next 33 days and petrol for the next 27 days.
He further revealed that an oil tanker with 35,000 tons of petrol is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka on 07 or 08 March.
“Ships are being brought in based on the availability of storage and existing fuel stocks. A ship containing fuel from RM Parks is expected to arrive on 14 March, from SINOPEC on 14 March, Indian Oil Company (IOC) on 21 March, and Ceylon Petroleum Corporation on 28 March. All the ships are loaded, and confirmation has also been made for the supply and storage,” he said.
Reiterating that there was no fuel shortage for now in Sri Lanka, President Dissanayake said, however, if the war escalates, the government will have to monitor and address issues accordingly.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake added that Sri Lanka expects all parties involved in the current conflict in the Middle East to commit to a peaceful resolution soon, as it affects the economy of the entire world, including Sri Lanka.
He went on to note that the Central Bank of Sri Lanka was working on compiling a report on the impact on Sri Lanka due to the Middle East crisis.
President Dissanayake further said that the Ministries of Finance and Foreign Affairs have already monitored the situation, compiled reports, and implemented the necessary measures to address the impact. (Newswire)
