The Gampaha Magistrate’s Court has ordered the release on bail of journalist Sandaruwan Senadheera, editor of the Lanka E News website.

He was arrested yesterday by the Katunayake Airport Police and was produced before the court today (12), during which he was granted bail.

Sandaruwan Senadheera’s arrest was carried out based on a warrant issued through Interpol on November 25, 2016, by Gampaha Chief Magistrate Kawindya Nanayakkara, ordering his immediate detention over allegations related to contempt of court.

Senadheera had left Sri Lanka in 2010 following the arson attack on the Lanka eNews office and the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda, and had been living in the United Kingdom under political asylum.

He was also known to have supported the National People’s Power (NPP) in recent years. (Newswire)
