Sri Lanka still salvaging documents months after Cyclone Ditwah

0 0

Nearly four months after Cyclone Ditwah hit Sri Lanka in November, officials are still trying to salvage tens of thousands of damaged documents.

The storm’s impact went beyond homes and infrastructure, striking at the country’s administrative backbone by destroying vital records such as birth certificates and land deeds.

According to Al Jazeera, restorers at Sri Lanka’s National Archives continue painstaking efforts to restore and preserve the damaged documents, with the Kandy Court Complex identified as one of the worst affected.

The United Nations and donors are helping with the challenging task. (Newswire/ Al Jazeera)
