The system is likely to move northwards during the next few days. As such, the current rainy conditions on the island are expected to continue for the next few days.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Northern provinces and in the Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at other places of the island after 1.00 pm. Heavy falls above 100 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, and Uva provinces and in Ampara, Batticaloa, Galle and Matara districts.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The low-pressure area, located northeast of Sri Lanka, is currently located near 10.1N and 83.5E. Therefore, wind speed and rainy conditions can increase over the sea areas around the island during the coming days. The naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant.
Accordingly, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas around the island today. Winds will be southwesterly. Wind speed will be 25-35 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
