The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) has warned the public about fake and misleading information being circulated on several social media platforms regarding civil aviation matters.

In a public notice, the CAASL stated that the information currently being shared is “entirely false, misleading, and unauthorized,” emphasizing that no such statement had been issued by the Director General of Civil Aviation and Chief Executive Officer to any media institution or social media platform.

The authority said it is taking steps to initiate legal action against individuals and parties responsible for creating, publishing, and disseminating the fabricated reports through social media.

The CAASL also urged the public, media organizations, and social media users to act responsibly when sharing information related to civil aviation and to verify details through officially issued media statements and the authority’s official communication channels.

The authority further stated that it remains committed to safeguarding public confidence, institutional dignity, and the credibility of state institutions, adding that firm action would be taken against the spread of false information and misinformation. (Newswire)
