Sri Lanka reaffirms commitment to EU partnership at Business Roundtable

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Arun Hemachandra reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to working closely with the European Union and international partners to build a competitive, resilient, connected, and sustainable economy as the country continues its transition from recovery to renewal.
Highlighting Sri Lanka’s strategic location in the Indian Ocean, Hemachandra emphasized the nation’s potential to emerge as a leading regional maritime and logistics hub through port modernization, green logistics initiatives, digital connectivity, export expansion, and strengthened investor confidence.
He underscored the importance of deepening ties with the EU to promote sustainable, high‑quality investment, expand trade opportunities, and support long‑term economic growth.
Hemachandra made the remarks while participating in the EU–Sri Lanka Business Roundtable held under the theme “Global Gateway and Sri Lanka’s Role as a Regional Maritime and Logistics Hub.”
The roundtable brought together representatives of the EU, European diplomatic missions, international financial institutions, chambers of commerce, investors, exporters, and key stakeholders from the port, logistics, and private sectors to explore opportunities for enhanced cooperation and sustainable investment.
