The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) yesterday said that it would not participate in the All Party Conference (APC) which is scheduled to be held on March 23.
According to SJB National Organizer Tissa Attanayake the main motive of holding such a conference is really not to
discuss matters pertaining to the country’s on–going economic crisis, but to discuss certain political issues related to the Government and other political parties.
“The Government at this crucial moment should call all political parties represented in Parliament to discuss the escalating prices of rice, milk powder, wheat flour, sugar, fuel including diesel and some essential services.
“The international community has seen the real economic situation in the country including the unending queues where people have to wait for hours to purchase their essential items,” he said.
Attanayaka therefore said the SJB is ready to discuss all these matters pertaining to people and the country in Parliament and not in any other place.
It is said the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has also boycotted Wednesday’s APC saying that the Government has not revealed the reason for the present economic crisis in the country and also not presented the report issued by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on our country.
