Former Navy Commander Wasantha Karannagoda arrested

Former Navy Commander Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) today.

Karannagoda had previously been summoned by CIABOC in connection with an investigation into the recruitment of Yoshitha Rajapaksa as an Executive Officer in the Sri Lanka Navy and his subsequent training at the Britannia Royal Naval College.

He did not appear before the Commission on a previous occasion, citing illness.

Yoshitha Rajapaksa was also arrested last month and later released on bail. However, CIABOC has not yet officially confirmed whether Karannagoda’s arrest today is linked to the same investigation. (Newswire)
