Heavy showers, strong winds forecast across several parts of Sri Lanka

The Department of Meteorology says heavy showers and strong winds are expected in several parts of the country today (31).
Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North Western provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely at some locations.
A few showers may also occur in the Anuradhapura and Hambantota districts, while mainly dry weather is expected across the rest of the island.
Meanwhile, strong winds of 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the Northern, North Central, North Western and Central provinces, as well as in the Ratnapura, Monaragala, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
The Department of Meteorology has advised the public to take necessary precautions to minimise damage caused by strong winds and heavy rainfall. (Newswire)
