Importers, businesses briefed on new digital signature and paperless Customs system

Sri Lanka’s Digital Signature and Paperless Customs Declaration System is set to come into operation on Oct. 1 as part of the government’s efforts to accelerate digital processing at Customs.

An awareness programme for importers and the business community was held at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce on Aug. 18, focusing on the new system and its benefits to the trade sector.

Officials from Sri Lanka Customs and LankaPay briefed participants on digital signatures, the process of obtaining them and their use when submitting Customs declarations.

Senior Additional Secretary to the President Seevali Arukgoda, who heads the Revenue Administration Reform and Modernization Bureau, also addressed the programme on the government’s digitalisation policy and the implementation of the project.

The programme was organised by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce in line with the government’s Paperless Document Processing at Customs initiative. (Newswire)
