Suspect arrested over Rs. 24 million gold, cash theft in Mount Lavinia

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the theft of gold jewellery and cash worth Rs. 24,000,000 from a house in the Mount Lavinia area, police said.

The suspect was arrested today (21) by officers of the Mount Lavinia Headquarters Police following a complaint received on Aug. 19.

The complainant, who was living in the rented house with his wife and children, had locked the house on Aug. 18 and left for a relative’s residence.

He discovered the theft when he returned home on the morning of Aug. 19 and subsequently lodged a complaint with the police.

Officers attached to the Mount Lavinia Headquarters Police conducted a prompt investigation and arrested a suspect and recovered several of the stolen items within two days of receiving the complaint. (Newswire)
