President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has said Sri Lanka is ready to assist Nepal with rescue and clearance operations following devastating floods that caused loss of life.

In a post on X, Dissanayake said Sri Lanka stands ready to support Nepal as authorities respond to the emergency and its aftermath.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of life following the devastating floods in Nepal. Sri Lanka stands ready to assist Nepal in rescue and clearance operations,” the president said.

Dissanayake drew parallels with Sri Lanka’s own experience of a deadly cyclone 10 months ago, saying the country shares the grief of the Nepalese people.

“As a nation still emerging from a deadly cyclone just 10 months ago, we share the grief of the Nepalese people,” he said.

The president also extended condolences to Nepal’s leadership and its people on behalf of Sri Lanka. (Newswire)
