India Women refuse Asia Cup trophy from ACC chief; Sri Lanka accept runners-up cheque

0 0

India Women refused to receive the Women’s Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council President Mohsin Naqvi following their victory over Sri Lanka in the final in Dubai.

The Indian players did not come forward to receive the trophy from Naqvi, while the ACC President and other officials remained on stage awaiting the champions.

Sri Lanka, however, took part in the presentation ceremony and accepted the runners-up cheque.

The incident echoes the 2025 Men’s Asia Cup final, when the Indian men’s team also refused to receive the trophy from Naqvi following their title victory.

India’s refusal was linked to Mohsin Naqvi’s position as Pakistan’s Interior Minister, alongside his roles as ACC President and Pakistan Cricket Board chairman. The Indian side did not want to receive the trophy from him amid continuing India-Pakistan political tensions. (Newswire)
