Prison officer arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs into Welikada Prison

A prison officer has been arrested for allegedly attempting to take drugs into Welikada Prison concealed inside his shoes, police said.
The drugs were discovered during a search conducted by prison officers inside the main entrance of Welikada Prison following information received.
The suspect is a prison officer serving at Welikada Prison.
Police said officers found 96 grams of ice and 16.7 grams of heroin concealed inside the shoes worn by the suspect.
Following the incident, a team of officers from the Borella Police Station Crime Investigation Division, including the Officer-in-Charge, conducted an investigation and took the drugs recovered from the suspect into police custody for further legal action.
