Severe lightning advisory : Red alerts issued across11 districts

The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning in the Uva, Eastern, Central, North central provinces and the Mullaittivu district today (16). 

Per the advisory, effective until 11.30 pm, red alerts have been issued for 11 districts and amber alerts for 14 districts. 

The Met Department warns that thundershowers accompanied with severe lightning is likely to occur at several places in the said provinces and district, while there may be temporary localized strong winds during thunderstorms. 

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity. (Newswire)
