Authorities have uncovered a major haul of illegal electronic cigarettes inside a suspicious container in Peliyagoda, with officials seizing more than 1,400 devices along with refilling accessories and cosmetic products, the Police said.
The inspection was carried out by the Colombo Central Division Criminal Investigation Unit, assisted by Sri Lanka Customs, the Police Narcotics Bureau, and police sniffer dogs, after information was received by the Police Superintendent of the division.
In a parcel registered under a resident of Kalagedihena, officers found 220 illegal e‑cigarettes. A further search revealed seven unclaimed parcels containing 1,249 e‑cigarettes, 145 refill boxes, 94 cartridges, and 1,520 tins of body‑whitening beauty products (400 grams each).
All seized goods have been handed over to Sri Lanka Customs for referral to the Government Analyst. Further inquiries into the consignment are underway. (Newswire)
