Opposition and civil society leaders sign joint statement against 22A

Opposition political party leaders and civil society representatives have signed a joint statement opposing the proposed 22nd Amendment to the Constitution.

According to the statement, the signatories said the proposed amendment poses a serious threat to the independence of the judiciary, democratic structures and citizens’ rights.

They said they believe the amendment could create a risk to the representative democratic system that has been maintained for nearly 80 years.

The signatories said they had signed the statement as a united collective committed to protecting democracy and opposing the proposed 22nd Amendment.
