Family performs funeral, almsgiving : Man believed dead returns alive

A bizarre incident has been reported from the Kokawewa Police Division, where a man thought to be dead, and for whom burial rites and even religious almsgiving ceremonies had been performed, suddenly returned home alive after nearly two months.

It is reported that the man had disappeared about two months ago. As he had a habit of leaving home for several days and returning, his family was not initially alarmed. However, after more than a week, his wife lodged a complaint with Kokawewa Police.

On August 27, police received information that a body had been found in a reserve within the Habarana Police Division, believed to be of a man who had died after consuming poison.

Relatives examined the body, and because the clothes matched those given to the husband by his son for the New Year, the wife and family confirmed it was him.

The body was buried in Polonnaruwa on August 31, and religious almsgiving ceremonies were held on September 6 and 7.

However, in a shocking twist, the man arrived by bus at his sister’s house, alive. Upon receiving a call about his return, the family immediately informed Kokawewa Police. (Newswire/ AI Image)
