Sri Sumangala meet St. Sebastian's at the final today
Reigning champions, Sri Sumangala College, Panadura, will meet St. Sebastian’s College, Katuneriya, in the final of their Under-19 Division Two Tier ‘A’ Inter-School Cricket Tournament at BRC grounds today (9).
Sri Sumangala will be led by Prabash Jayasekara with Malisha Deshan captaining St. Sebastian’s Katuneriya. Vishwa Lahiru, who scored 40 runs and finished with figures of 2 for 16 in his 7-over spell with 2 maidens, guided Sri Sumangala to beat Tissa Central Kalutara in their semi-final. Vidusha Peiris the leg spinner is their key spinner among the wickets this season while skipper Prabsh Jayasekara and Vishwa Lahiru are their centurions on the side. Sri Sumangala advanced to the quarter-final as group champion of their group in the first round. They beat St. John’s, Jaffna, in the quarter-final. They reached the final with an unbeaten record and are expected to retain the title.
St. Sebastian’s Chatumal Nimesh, who scored a century against Devananda, and also Senura Dimal scored a century against Sri Piyaratna MMV in their League round matches, are their key batters. Hasitha Kavinda is also among the run-scorers this season. St. Sebastian’s advanced to the quarter-final as runner-ups of their group in the first round. They beat Vidyartha Kandy in the quarter-final, and the semi-final ended in a no-result due to rain and entered the final according to the net run rate from the previous rounds as per tournament rules.
