Red landslide alerts issued for areas in Kandy, Kegalle and Nuwara Eliya

The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued Level 3 Red landslide warnings for several areas in the Kandy, Kegalle and Nuwara Eliya districts amid continuing rainfall.

According to the latest landslide early warning issued at 2.00 p.m. today (20), a Red Alert is in effect for the Pasbage Korale Divisional Secretariat Division and surrounding areas in the Kandy District.

In the Kegalle District, Level 3 warnings have been issued for the Dehiowita, Aranayake, Deraniyagala, Mawanella and Yatiyanthota Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas.

In the Nuwara Eliya District, Red Alerts are in force for Kothmale West, Kotmale East, Ambagamuwa and Norwood and surrounding areas.

A Level 3 warning indicates an evacuation-level landslide risk, with residents in vulnerable locations advised to move to safe areas, particularly if rainfall continues.

The warning is valid from 2.00 p.m. today until 2.00 p.m. tomorrow (21).

Level 1 and Level 2 warnings also remain in effect for several other areas across multiple districts. (Newswire)
