Weather: Showers expected across several provinces

Showers are expected at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts on Saturday, the Department of Meteorology said.

Showers or thundershowers are expected at a few places in Uva province and in the Batticaloa and Ampara districts after 2 p.m.

The public has been advised to take adequate precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

In the sea areas, showers or thundershowers are expected at times off the coast extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Winds will be southwesterly at speeds of 30-40 kmph. Wind speeds could increase to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankesanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

Those sea areas are expected to be fairly rough at times. Wave heights could increase to about 2.0-2.5 meters in the affected sea areas. (Newswire)
