Mano Ganesan appeals to Saudi Crown Prince for clemency for Anojan Sivarasa

Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) Leader Mano Ganesan has appealed to Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman to grant clemency to Sri Lankan national Anojan Sivarasa, who is facing the death penalty in Saudi Arabia.

Making the appeal on humanitarian grounds, Ganesan recalled an incident from nearly two decades ago in which a Sri Lankan man reportedly forgave a Saudi woman who had been sentenced to death over the killing of his wife.

In a statement shared on X, Ganesan said, Sri Lankan national Sahadevan lost his wife, Rajamani, after she was killed in Saudi Arabia. A Saudi woman held responsible for her death was subsequently sentenced to death.

However, Ganesan said Sahadevan chose to forgive the woman out of compassion for her children, ultimately sparing her from execution.

Referring to the case of Anojan Sivarasa, Ganesan appealed to the Saudi Crown Prince to extend a similar spirit of mercy and compassion to the Sri Lankan national.

“A Sri Lankan family once forgave a Saudi mother. May Saudi Arabia now show mercy to a Sri Lankan son,” Ganesan said.

He said the appeal was being made on humanitarian grounds and in the spirit of mercy, compassion and the preservation of life. (Newswire)
