Colombo Municipal Council lights up in pink for breast cancer awareness

The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) was illuminated in pink yesterday (05) as part of a nationwide initiative to raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection.

According to Colombo Mayor, Vraîe Cally Balthazaar, the CMC joined several government and private institutions across the country in lighting up its premises in pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed throughout October.

Highlighting the scale of the disease, Vraîe Cally Balthazaar said 17 new breast cancer cases are detected and three women lose their lives to the disease every day.

She further stressed that greater awareness, regular screening and self-examinations could help save lives through early detection.

The Colombo Mayor also encouraged the public to continue raising awareness throughout October and to encourage women to undergo screening.

Vraîe Cally Balthazaar commended the Indira Cancer Trust for its efforts to increase breast cancer awareness and spread the message of early detection across the country. (Newswire)
