Three business establishments in Colombo have been fined a total of Rs. 300,000 for offering imported goods for sale without the required importer and labelling information, the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) said.

The CAA said legal action was instituted against the establishments for violating Direction No. 85 published in Extraordinary Gazette No. 2286/26.

The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court imposed a fine of Rs. 100,000 on each establishment.

Wuhan Chinese Restaurant on 16th Lane, Kollupitiya, was fined for offering imported food products without the required information, while Diligenics Lanka Holding (Pvt) Ltd on Sea Street, Pettah, was fined over mosquito-repellent topical products that did not carry legally required labelling information.

Quebec Gateway (Pvt) Ltd on W.A. Silva Mawatha, Wellawatte, was fined for displaying footwear for sale without the required importer information.

The CAA urged consumers to check labels when purchasing imported products, including food, body-care products and footwear, to ensure details such as the local importer, price and relevant product information are provided.

The authority said complaints regarding imported goods being sold without the required information can be made through its 1977 hotline during office hours. (Newswire)
