Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill passed in Parliament without a vote

The Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill was passed in Parliament today (08) with amendments and without a vote.
The legislation aims to address legal, interpretational, administrative, and technical challenges encountered during the implementation of the Anti-Corruption Act, No. 9 of 2023.
It also resolves discrepancies between the Sinhala and English texts of the Act, streamlines the investigation and prosecution of corruption offences, improves administrative processes for the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and updates the submission of asset and liability declarations via a centralized electronic system.
According to Parliament, these amendments are designed to reinforce Sri Lanka’s legal and institutional frameworks against corruption, ensuring transparent, accountable and effective enforcement. (Newswire)
