At least 12 people have been killed and 309 others injured in the latest attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, amid escalating attacks on the country’s civilian aviation infrastructure.
Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said the fatalities included four Saudi citizens and eight foreign nationals from Bangladesh, the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan.
Some of the injured are in critical condition and are receiving treatment at hospitals, while authorities are assessing the damage caused by the attack.
Airport operations were temporarily suspended following the incident, with passengers advised to contact their airlines to check flight arrangements.
The head of the Houthi media office said in a post on X following Saturday’s attack that the group had “shut down Riyadh international airport”.
The Houthis have also warned airlines to avoid Saudi airspace, declaring it a zone of military operations after the Yemeni government launched an offensive against the group on Monday.
US President Donald Trump condemned the attack, saying it was “not acceptable”, and said he would speak with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Trump also indicated that Washington could join Saudi Arabia’s military strikes against the Houthis in Yemen, saying the United States was evaluating the possibility and would make a decision soon. (Newswire)
