Landslide warnings issued for 5 districts

The National Building Research Institute (NBRI) has issued landslide warnings for parts of Badulla, Kegalle, Matale, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura districts, effective until 4 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 21).

Amber-level alerts have been issued for parts of Kegalle and Ratnapura, while yellow-level warnings cover vulnerable areas in all five districts.

The institute warned that continued rainfall could trigger landslides, slope failures, rockfalls and ground subsidence.

Residents have been urged to watch for warning signs, including ground cracks, leaning trees and muddy water emerging from the ground, and to move to safety if such signs appear. People in landslide-prone areas should remain vigilant and follow instructions from authorities. (Newswire)
