An officer attached to the Gampaha Regional Office of the Road Passenger Transport Authority has been arrested for allegedly soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 100.

According to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), the officer allegedly demanded the money to allow a bus operating on Route 188 from Raddolugama to Colombo to depart later than its scheduled time and provide the bus crew with a favourable departure arrangement.

The suspect, identified as a timetable officer, was arrested by CIABOC investigators at approximately 12:25 p.m. on October 20 inside the timetable office at the Raddolugama bus stand.

The arrest was made following a complaint lodged by a person working on the bus. (Newswire)
