Medical Supplies Division receives 15 modern forklifts and reach trucks worth Rs. 130 million

The Medical Supplies Division (MSD) was officially handed over 11 modern reach trucks and four forklifts valued at Rs. 130 million today (23) to enhance the operational quality, safety and efficiency of the logistics management process under the Ministry of Health and Mass Media.
The procurement represents the first time in nearly 25 years that a large bulk consignment of 15 material-handling vehicles equipped with modern technology has been acquired at once, fulfilling a long-standing requirement for the MSD, which previously relied on a limited number of aging forklifts and rented vehicles.
The handing over ceremony was held under the patronage of Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, with the consignment provided through World Bank project funding.
In addition to the equipment, loan assistance under the World Bank project will fund the construction of three new pharmaceutical warehouse complexes in Galle, Colombo and Anuradhapura to expand island-wide medicine storage capacity by an additional 20,000 to 30,000 cubic meters, with construction scheduled to begin in 2027.
The Ministry of Health expects this comprehensive modernization programme to streamline public health drug distribution and supply chain management across Sri Lanka. (Newswire)
